Sopore, Nov 20 (KNO): Temporary employees of the PHE Mechanical division Sopore in North Kashmir held a protest on Thursday after six workers were allegedly disengaged by the Executive Engineer.
Workers gathered at the office, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) raised slogans, demanding an immediate rollback of the decision and protection of their service.
Protestors referred to the 11 March Assembly session, where the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, had said that a committee would frame a plan for the regularisation of temporary employees.
They said no decision has been announced by the committee so far, and questioned the move to disengage workers at this stage.
Workers said they have served for more than two decades and are now being told to leave without any security. One of the employees said he has been asked to go home after 25 years of service and has no clarity on how he will support his family.
The aggrieved workers warned of a valley wide tool down protest if the order is not withdrawn by the 25th of this month. They said the department must take responsibility if it pushes long serving employees out of work—(KNO)
